SOMIEH SARA

Somieh sara was named after a wise man known as Sheikh Abdullah Somieh in 4th or 5th century A.H. On the other hand, the major reason of naming it Somieh is simply due to a number of convents in the city.

Somieh Sara is a newly established one in a plain area of Gilan. It was a less important district of kasma in the past. However, today it is more popular than other adjoining districts and given credit for being the center of the township due to its geographical position which neighbors Masal Shanderman and talesh doolab from the west and Anzali from the north and Rasht from the east and also due to the existence of water canal through fooman and its vital role in watering the regional farmlands.

People speak Gilaki with a bieh pas dialect. Agriculture and Morwar- knitting are the main activities of the people. Rice, tobacco and patch products are the main agricultural products.
Sericulture or the raising of silkworms and apiculture or beekeeping have placed a nationally distinguished position. From the view point of natural resource it won the first place in terms of fir plantation and wood production. However, animal husbandry has not been that much developed because of low expanse of breeding ground.
